I am Heeju Choi, a textile artist and the founder of Studio HEEWONE.

I work primarily with traditional Korean natural fibers, creating objects inspired by the rhythms of nature and textile pieces designed for a gentle way of living.

My creative process often begins with the scenes I encounter on my daily walks, the flowing lines of the sea, the expansive sky, and the distant ridges of mountains. Recently, my focus has been on Pollock: A Charm for Protection and Blessing, an object that rests quietly, offering a sense of comfort simply by being seen.

Korean natural fibers possess a singular character, crisp to the touch, with beautiful irregularities and a soft translucency that recalls traditional papered windows.

I find deep beauty in how these materials continue to evolve.

White ramie gradually deepens into a warm, sun-kissed tone, while hemp, refined through traditional soy treatment, grows softer and lighter with every wash.

Over time, small openings may appear in the weave. For me, mending these spaces with patches is not a repair, but a continuation of the work itself.

I find meaning in this ongoing practice of sewing, witnessing how each piece grows, breathes, and changes alongside the passage of time.
